1986 Jeep Comanche "Base"
Here is the truck that started it all...
When I got my license, I wanted a Fulll size Dodge truck, but that was too big for insurance reasons($$$). I didn't want a Dakota, because there were too many, and I would just be another in a crowd. I knew a neighbor that had a Comanche, and decided to research one. I found a Comanche on ebay, and knew thats what I wanted. I put the word out to everyone I knew, and had some results in no time. I looked at an '89 Pioneer, that was 1500 dollars, but not worth it. Then I found this one...

My First MJ!!!
This is exactly what it looked like when I got it. Had that cap, the stuipid bug deflector, and looked like an elmer fudd hunting truck. Even though I wanted a 4.0L 4x4, I settled for this one in a pinch. It is an '86 2.5L 2WD 4-speed. It was well taken care of by the previous owner(original), and he loved it. The only reason he had to part with it was because he was getting too old for the manual steering, manual transmission, and lack of power ammentities. This was such a base model, it originally came with an AM radio, notice how I didn't say FM? Some modifications he did were the AR wheels, a sunroof (hail damage fix), sliding rear window, carpet sample floor mats, some plywood speaker boxes duct-taped to the cab behind the seat, and an AM/FM cassette deck. |

Look at that POWER!!!!
Well, not that much power. The TBI 2.5L is plenty enough for some, but I wanted more. Granted I could squeal the tires going into second if I wanted to, it wasnt a 4WD. It had 114,000 on the clock when I bought it, and purred like a kitten, and still does. The 4 speed, was good, and shifted solid, but I wanted a 5 speed for some improved gas milage. After driving this for about 3/4 of a year, I began the search for another MJ with some new funds. |

Bare bones BASE.
My interior. Not much to look at, but well worn in and COMFORTABLE. Except on a summer day, you know, when the vinyl gets HOT, HOT, HOT! On a nice day, I would just get into this truck and drive for the hell of it, and just to relax. The seat was well worn, and had a tear or two, but was the most comfortable thing to sit in, especially with some tunes cranking and the windows down. Pretty base interior, no carpet, orginally came with an AM radio, no power steering, no power windows, no A/C, vinyl seat, and the bench. |
